World Meteorological Day (WMD) has been celebrated around the world on 23 March every year since the first World Meteorological Day in 1961. The Day commemorates the entry-into-force, on 23 March 1950, of the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This year, the theme of WWD is "the World Meteorological Organization—60 years of service for your safety and well-being." >>Previous themes

It's an appropriate theme at a time when communities around the globe are striving to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, in particular concerning health, food and water security and poverty alleviation, as well as to improve their resilience in the face of recurrent natural disasters and the impacts of climate change.

China is one of the signatory countries of the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and it's also one of the founding countries of WMO. To mark the 2010 WMD, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Beijing meteorological observing station will be open to the public on March 20.
