Starting from August 2009, Beijing has made the last Saturday of each month Renewable Resources Recycling Day (3R Day),commenced in the eight urban districts.

On the 3R Day, which aims to help the city realize its goal in classifying waste and reducing the quantity of waste, a professional team will go to local communities to collect renewable resources. On August 29, the first 3R Day, two to three recycling sites were arranged in each district, offering information and providing consulting services on renewable resource recycle and domestic waste classification to encourage more people to join the initiative.

Starting from March 2010, another 10 suburban districts are also participating.

Beijing aims to realize waste classification among 10% of its permanent residents this year, focusing on kitchen waste. In addition, it plans to build 300 renewable resources recycling sites in the eight urban districts and complete the construction of 13 renewable resource selection centers.
