New energy forum to enhance int'l cooperation in environment

Representatives from 25 countries and regions are going to gather in Qingdao, a port city of east China's Shandong Province, later this month to discuss development of new energy, emission cut and environmental protection.

They will also exchange views on energy saving and the building of energy-saving structures at the Qingdao International New Energy Forum, slated for April 28-30, with the theme of "New energy and sustainable development."

The aim of the forum was to strengthen international cooperation on new energy development and promotion of industrial development, for the purpose of tackling global energy shortages and environment degradation, Wang Xu, deputy secretary general of the Shandong provincial government told a press conference here Thursday.

Oversease participants to the forum include ambassadors, ministers and councillors of over 10 countries to China, and representatives of 175 enterprises, research institutions and chambers of commerce.

Domestic participants come from eight government agencies and 185 enterprises, research institutions and chambers of commerce.

The Qingdao International New Energy Forum would be jointly hosted by the Shandong Provincial Government and eight government agencies including the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
