In the future, Beijing's governmental offices will use both sides of paper for printing and, classified garbage bins will also be arranged and collected in office areas.

During Beijing's first "Thursday Garbage Reducing Day" activity held on April 15, a relevant official from the Working Committee, which is directly under Beijing Municipal Party Committee, said that governmental organizations would play leading roles in the "garbage reduction and garbage classification" work.

On April 15, Beijing's first "Thursday Garbage Reducing Day," jointly sponsored by the Capital Civic Enhancement Committee Office, Beijing Municipal City Management Committee and other organizations, was launched in Zhongguancun, the symbol of the activity was also unveiled, and the sponsors also awarded medals to the pilot companies which had achieved a "zero waste" level in their daily garbage.

Chen Dong, the director of the Capital Civic Enhancement Committee, said the "Thursday Garbage Reduction Day" activity will last for a long time, and the governments will arrange special funds to award the enterprises that effectively treat and recycle their daily garbage and will reduce garbage treatment fees for those businesses that realize "zero waste" in their daily garbage. In 2011 and 2012, the "zero waste in daily garbage" work will become common practice in Beijing.

Yang Gongding, the vice secretary of the Working Committee directly under the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, said that governmental organizations will take the lead in the garbage reduction work. After the "zero waste" measures are implemented, both sides will be used on all office paper used by governmental offices, and all governments will promote the construction of a paperless electronic government infrastructure by using the Internet and local networks. In working zones and dining zones, three kinds of garbage bins will be introduced, which will be used for recyclable garbage, kitchen waste and other garbage. The daily garbage in the working zone will be divided into two categories, which are recyclable garbage, such as waste paper, and other garbage such cigarette butts and used tea bags.

Meanwhile, government offices will also take the lead in promoting the green office behavior, improving their working styles and reducing unnecessary meetings and files. They will also purchase products and recycled products with the China environment label, the recyclable label and the energy-saving label such as the recycled paper products.

Besides, the dining zones of the pilot organizations will not offer disposable chopsticks, dishware and cups any more in the future, and will serve meals buffet-style.
