There will be more electric vehicles hitting roads in Hong Kong in the following months, the city's Environment Secretary Edward Yau told legislators on Wednesday.

By the end of April, 57 electric vehicles, namely 34 cars, 17 motorcycles, four vans and two buses, are on the roads in Hong Kong.

The figure is expected to rise as electric vehicles from all over the world are being developed and put to commercial production, and seek to enter the Hong Kong market, Yau said.

To cope with the rising number of electric vehicles, the city will set up 25 more charging stations for electric vehicles by the mid-year, bringing the total to 62.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has also issued technical guidelines to property management companies and car-park operators, urging them to install charging facilities, he added.
