The expedition is the first project aimed at cleaning mountains above 8,000 meter. Namgyal Sherpa, the Nepali project director, under the coordination of Chakra Karki has been leading the project. The team comprises 31 Sherpas, including 11 porters and 20 mountaineers.

The clean-up started on April 25. This project hopes to build a mountain of 2,000kg garbage at the base camp in Nepali side.

"The campaign also encourages people across the globe to do more in response to environmental pollution" said Jyoti Pande, General Manager of NIBL.

According to Sopia L Pande, coordinator of the 2010 expedition, the team has already collected 1,500kg of garbage. She also requested volunteers to help the team.

Alongside the cleaning campaign, the team will spread awareness on environmental pollution, climate change and the urgent need to keep environment clean.
