Russian Polar explorers are en route to St. Petersburg from Antarctica, local media reported Thursday.

The vessel Academic Fyodorov with 70 scientists on board conducted a research work during its 201-day journey around the world.

The experts were said to have continued the well-drilling near Vostok lake, the largest of more than 140 subglacial lakes found under the surface of Antarctica, where they collected water samples.

They also performed radar measurements of the ice cap in the central Antarctica and oceanographic research in the Bellingshausen Sea.
