Indonesia and Japan are eyeing mutual benefit in green growth by highlighting potential of public- private finance partnership, an expert said here on Tuesday.

"We intend to highlight potential of PPFP with a view to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for both Indonesia and Japan in the areas of energy efficiency improvement, renewable energy, technology transfer and corresponding business opportunities," said Fumio Hoshi, executive director of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) before a seminar titled "PPFP for Green Growth" .

The seminar, part of JBIC Partnership Forum in Asia, aimed to facilitate active discussion among key stakeholders in Indonesia and Japan on how the public and private sectors could collaborate to bring about low carbon growth or green growth.

Arianto A. Patunru, director of Institute for Economic and Social Research (LPEM) at the Economics Faculty, University of Indonesia, said that his institution has been working closely with JBIC for many years on key issues.

"We believe that this is vital to make strategic use of respective strengths and comparative advantages of Indonesia and Japan to achieve our common goal of advancing green growth," said Patunru.

Toshiro Nishizawa, director of Asia Department II at Japan Center for International Finance (JCIF), the collaborating organization, added that while global crisis seems to have abated to some extent, the world is still confronted with fundamental challenges.

"One is uncertainty in the global economy and another one is the problem of climate change. How to create a global low carbon society is a key concern for us, but also for future generations," he said Nishizawa.
