Military personnel on Sunday joined local fire-fighters in an effort to contain the raging fires burning in forests in central, eastern and northern Georgia.

The Georgian defense ministry sent helicopters to join the fire-fighting efforts.

Up to 30 hectares of forests went ablaze in the Tbilisi National Park where fire first broke out late on Saturday while 60 hectares of forests were burned down in Telavi in eastern Georgia since Saturday.

Some 60 hectares of pasture lands were devoured by fire near Kazbegi in the north of the South Caucasus country.

Though preliminary probes pinned down the cause of the raging forest fire onto "human negligence", warmer-than-usual weather in the past week had to be conducive to the outbreak of forest fires which are prone to occur in the season of fall in this country.

Police have not reported any fire-inflicted casualties. Nor have local authorities estimated the property damage caused by the ongoing fires.
