Magnitude-5.7 earthquake jolts NE Japan

A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 hit northeastern Japan Monday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The focus of the quake, which occurred at 16:30 p.m. local time (0730 GMT), was located 10 km under the sea east of the Aomori Prefecture, according to the agency.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties, and no tsunami warning was issued.
