Residents in part of an eastern Perth suburb in Western Australia (WA) have been urged to evacuate on Thursday as an approaching bushfire threatens lives and homes.

A bushfire emergency warning has been issued for residents of three streets in the eastern part of Forrestfield bordering Mundy Regional Park.

"There is a threat to lives and homes. You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive," the warning issued by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) of Western Australia said at noon (local time) on Thursday.

"It is not safe to stay and actively defend, your best chance for survival is to leave," the bushfire advice said.

It said a number of roads had been closed and motorists should avoid the area.
