China to hold 4th world environmental summit in June

The 4th World Economic and Environmental Conference (4th WEC) will be held in Qingdao, China in June 2011. It is expected to offer a valuable platform to display development and construction in urban environmental-protection industry, and a great opportunity to cooperate with enterprises at home and abroad.

2011 will see after effects of the financial crisis, slow economic growth, structural transition, and new change of international development situation. Additionally, a green development mode will become common direction of various countries.

China, as the largest developing country in the world, has accomplished the formulation of the 12th Five-year Plan by the end of 2010, and put forward economic transition concept in 2011 by attaching more importance to the environment, efficiency, overall strength, industry upgrading, energy conservation and emission reduction.

The conference, titled "Low Carbon Mission in Economic Transition and Development," incorporates 10 hot spots, 10 topics and 10 meetings, with a focus on topics such as Low Carbon Development and Economic Mode, and Industry Transition and Market Cultivation.

Additionally it will focus on hot issues like Chinese low carbon development mode and opportunities, business market and future, ecological city construction, regional economy and green industry, solid waste disposal, green building, and carry out in-depth analysis and interactive communication and dialogue with a view to sharing ideas and opinions of heads of countries or governments, economists, specialists and business leaders.

The conference has won the support from environmental protection departments of various countries, foreign embassies in China, as well as the Chinese government.

Qingdao, due to its great achievement in urban ecological construction field, and its positive spirit in establishing sustainable development between economy and environment, was the winner among different cities bidding for hosting the conference.

Founded in 2008, WEC aims at encouraging developing countries to make transition to green development mode.

As an international and professional summit launched in China, WEC has been successfully held for the past three years, and attracted more than 2,000 guests from over 40 countries, as well as over 40 Chinese officials of minister-level or above and 50 mayors.

At present, WEC has become an important meeting with profound social impact and wide popularity in terms of environmental protection industry development and low carbon economic construction.

According to the Organizing Committee of the conference, a list will also be released of valuable enterprises of "China's Future Carbon Finance" in pushing forward world sustainable development, and of public figures of "Earth Vitality" in leading the world towards low carbon transition.

The conference is sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA).
