The Mozambican authorities say elephants from the South African Kruger Park are destroying crops in Magude district of Maputo province.
The elephants also caused panic among local residents, the Mozambique News Agency (AIM) reported on Monday.
AIM quoted the Magude district director of agriculture, Gabriel Cambo,as saying many fields with already grown crops have been devastated by the mammals.
The situation is worse at Mapulanguene, where maize and casava fields are ruined.
To curb the problem, Cambo said, the district is working with professional hunters to chase or kill the elephants, which may cause hunger in Magude this year.
Elephants are also among the animals of killing residents in Mozambique in what is regarded animal-human conflict.
