Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh and Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen signed here Wednesday an agreement to extend research cooperation on climate change between the two countries for another three years (2011-2013).

The research program will focus on scientific and technological application in fighting climate change, especially in minimizing its negative impacts on Vietnam, training Vietnamese researchers to meet international standards, and improving the infrastructure quality of Vietnam's scientific and technological institutions and organizations.

Denmark has planned to invest 45 million Danish krone (8 million U.S. dollars) in the program, of which 15 million krone (2. 7 million U.S. dollars) will be disbursed in 2011 to implement at least three selected projects.

Vietnam is considered to be among the worst-affected countries by climate change, while response to climate change is one of Denmark's priorities in granting loans to developing countries.
