6.2-magnitude quake hits near S.E coast of Taiwan

An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale hits near the southeast coast of Taiwan at 9:12 p.m. local time Friday, according to Taiwan's weather bureau.

The epicenter was monitored at 194.9 kilometers southeast of Taitung County, with a depth of 178.2 kilometers, according to a statement released by the bureau.

The highest scale monitored on the island was 2.0-magnitude. Kaohsiung City, Chiayi County and other areas were affected.

No casualty was reported so far, the statement said.
