5.6-magnitude quake hits eastern Honshu, Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted eastern Honshu, Japan, earlier Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 01:00 local time (1600 GMT on Friday). Its epicenter, with a depth of 24.50 km, was initially determined to be at 37.06 degrees north latitude and 140.94 degrees east longitude. It was four km east of Iwaki and 86 km southeast of Fukushima, Honshu.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
