Germany has granted Mexico 7 million U.S. dollars to fight the effects of climate change, Mexico's environment minister said in Mexico City Tuesday.

The 7 million dollars were granted during the 1st Dialogue Forum on Climate Change held on June 3 and 4 in Berlin, Germany.

Environment and Natural Resources Minister Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada said in a statement that the bilateral alliance between Mexico and Germany is aimed at concretizing actions ahead of the 17th United Nations Conference on Climate Change to be held in Durban, South Africa in November.

The latest donation of 7 million dollars is added to other 3 million dollars donated through the Mexican-German Climate Change Alliance, which uses the money for joint projects including sustainable housing and the improvement of polluted places.

Mexico's Deputy Minister for Planning and Environmental Policy Fernando Tudela said that specific options for cooperation in climate change projects had been identified during the Berlin meeting, including analysis on how to include the private sectors and local governments in such projects.
