A rare miniature pony born prematurely with twisted legs will die unless his owner can raise 6,000 pounds to pay for a surgery, the Daily Mail reported.

The mini Minxy, a Falabella pony, was born 10 weeks ago at stables in St. Blazey, Cornwall. Around 1,600 pounds in vet bills have already been paid to splint Minxy's legs and wrap them in bandages every day in efforts to straighten them.

During his short life so far, the 17.6 inch-tall pony, weighing just 13.5kg, has become best friends with a five-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier called Chloe. Chloe mothers the pony by licking him clean, and the pair have been inseparable since Minxy was born.

"He is such a strong-willed little fella," owner Joanne Morris, 29, said, "We want to give him the chance of a normal life."
