Fifty-six Manchurian tigers were taken from Heilongjiang province to Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, reaching their new home in Guaipo Park on Tuesday. This was the largest ever transfer of tigers in China.

The tigers, aged 1 or 2 years, used to be kept in Heilongjiang Manchurian Tiger Park, which is the largest one in the country. The park is opening a branch in Shenyang, which will house 103 tigers. The other 47 tigers were transferred to Shenyang in several trips last month.

The journey on Tuesday took nearly 14 hours. "After a long trip, these tigers are a little tired. However, they are in good condition," said Wang Ligang, general manager of Heilongjiang Manchurian Tiger Park.

According to Wang, the tigers will adapt to their new surroundings after a month or two. The park in Shenyang will open before Oct 1.
