Fans of lunar eclipse across Japan feasted their eyes on a total eclipse of the moon late Saturday night. Saturday's eclipse enabled observers in Japan to enjoy it from start to finish. A total lunar eclipse has taken place around every six months in recent years, but according to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), the eclipse occurred under the best conditions since July 2000. The eclipse spanned about 50 minutes, ranging from 9:45 p.m. until reaching a full eclipse at 11:05 p.m. An eclipse takes place when the sun, Earth and moon are aligned exactly or very closely so with the Earth in the middle.
