Storm destroys dozens of huts in SW Myanmar

Strong wind and heavy rain have destroyed 92 huts from eight village tracts in Maubin township, Myanmar's southwestern Ayeyawaddy region, over the past week, official media reported Monday.

A rice mill and a monastery were also damaged, leaving nearly 270 people from 62 households homeless, said the New Light of Myanmar.

The storm victims were reportedly being taken care by the regional government.

According to other earlier report, a girl was killed in capsizal of 11 fishing boats triggered by the strong wind and heavy rain in the same township of Maubin over the period. The others escaped from the tragedy by swimming.

The incident happened while fishing at Sangyoungton Lake, 9 nautical miles from fire station in Maubin.
