Mozambican President Armando Guebuza left here on Monday for Brazil to attend in the Rio summit on climate change.

Guebuza was seen off by senior members of his government and party leaders at the Maputo International Airport.

The Mozambican head of state will be among presidents to attend the summit set to open off on Monday.

The objective of the UN gathering is to renew the principles of the Rio declaration and the agenda 21, approved about 20 years ago.

Around 50,000 people are taking part in the meeting on sustainable development.

Mozambique is one of the countries facing serious problems of climate change. The former Portuguese colony has been hit by flooding, cyclones and drought due to environmental degradation.
