A heavy snowstorm hit southern area of Hokkaido in the northern Japan, leading more than 30,000 household suffer from power-off, local media reported Tuesday.
Affected by an enlarged low pressure system, power transmission cables to Muroran, Noboribetsu, Date and Shiraoi in Japan's Pacific coastal areas have been seriously influenced, Japan's Kyodo quoted Hokkaido Electricity Power Company as saying.
The power-off and the extreme weather also affected railway transportation. Local railway company has suspended about 70 trains on lines including Hakodate and Muroran lines.
