Two shipping lines in northern and southern China were suspended Saturday due to approaching strong winds, local authorities said.

Shipping services between Yantai in east China's Shangdong Province and Dalian in northeastern province of Liaoning shut down at noon because of gales and blizzards expected in the area from Saturday night to Sunday morning, Yantai maritime authorities said.

The ships should resume service at noon on Sunday as the wind is forecast to weaken, according to the authorities.

Meanwhile, passenger ferries in the Qiongzhou Strait separating southern province of Guangdong and the island province of Hainan suspended operation from 5 p.m. Saturday because strong winds are expected to sweep the region over the next 72 hours, the local meteorological center said.
