Mount. Lokon in North Sulawesi of the central part of Indonesia erupted on Thursday, spewing ash by up to 800 meters to the sky, head of National Volcanology Agency Surono said here.
The volcano first erupted at 06:56 local time Thursday (2256 GMT Wednesday), releasing ash up to over 800 meters high and the second one at 10:44 local time (0244 GMT), but the height of the ash could not be monitored as it was covered by cloud, Surono said.
"We do not issue an evacuation zone, as the frequent of quake and its strength has been weakening," he told Xinhua over phone.
The frequent and the strength of the quakes started to raise at 22:54 local time Wednesday (0254 GMT), said Surono.
"We immediately issued a warning over possible eruption. But after the second eruption today (Thursday) we do not issue a warning," he said.
In July 2011, Month Lokon erupted, disturbing flight in Manadoi, the capital city of North Sulawesi.
Indonesia, an archipelago country with about 17,500 islands, is homed by 129 active volcanoes.
