An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Rchter scale struck off West Sumatra of Indonesia earlier Thursday with no initial reports of damage or casualty, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.
The quake jolted at 05:12 a.m. Jakarta time Thursday (2212 GMT Wednesday) with epicenter at 56 km southwest of Pesisir Selatan at a depth of 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua over phone.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the " Pacific Ring of Fire".
