6.1-magnitude quake hits off New Zealand's North Island

A 6.1-magnitude quake jolted off the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand at 1:16 p.m. Saturday Beijing Time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 180 km, was monitored at 36.1 degrees south latitude and 178.0 degrees east longitude, the center said.
