Whirlwind, landslide kill 2 in C. Java, Indonesia

Whirlwind and landslides in Central Java of Indonesia on Tuesday killed 2 people, injured 6 others and damaged over 300 houses, official said here.

The whirlwind struck at Wonosobo and Demak districts at 01:30 p. m. and 03:20 p.m. Jakarta time respectively, leaving 320 houses suffering from moderate to serious damages, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of disaster management and mitigation agency told Xinhua over phone.

In Wonosobo, one village is isolated which hampers emergency assistance due to poor roads and power outages, said Sutopo.

In Kendal disrict, the landslides hit a warehouse of a factory, CV Tri Abadi Purnama at 01:30 p.m. Jakarta time, killing two people and injuring six others, he said.

All the injured persons have been rushed to a nearby hospital, said Sutopo.

Indonesia has been frequently hit by whirlwind during extreme weather and landslides during heavy rain, killing dozens of people.
