M6.4 quake hits Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the sea area off the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Monday, according to Itar-Tass reports.

The quake occurred at 6:44 a.m. local time on Monday (1944 GMT Sunday), according to the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The epicenter, at a depth of 40 km, is 174 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tremors were felt in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. There have been no reports of casualties or damage so far, and no tsunami warning was issued.
