Typhoon Nari killed at least three people and injured 11 others after making a landfall in Vietnam's central region on early Tuesday, according to state-run Vietnam News Agency's initial report.

The three deaths are in Quang Nam province while the injured were reported in Da Nang City.

The typhoon, called Storm 11, brought heavy rains ranging from 80mm-150mm in localities between Quang Tri and Quang Ngai.

In central Da Nang city, the disaster caused power outage on a large scale, forcing the suspension of the city's two largest water supply factories.

Meanwhile, the entire Quang Nam province also suffered blackouts since Monday night.

Thousands of houses and schools were damaged, trees uprooted and many roads in Tam Ky and Hoi An cities flooded.

The typhoon is forecast to move westward and weaken into tropical low pressure in late Tuesday afternoon, triggering torrential rains in many northern, central and Central Highlands localities, said the report.
