Greece has been hit by the first heat wave of the summer after an unusually cool and rainy spring by Greek standards, meteorologists said on Tuesday.
Experts from the National Meteorological Agency said that temperatures, which have reached 34 degrees Celsius in western Greece, will climb up to 39 degrees Celsius by Thursday across the country combined with high humidity levels.
Doctors' associations advised the public to be cautious, avoiding exposure to the sun, in particular groups who are at higher risk of heat stroke and other health problems.
Meteorologists expect the heat wave to start to subside from Friday.
