An extremely rare blue-colored red king crab was caught by a fisherman earlier this month in Nome, Alaska, US.
Commercial crabber Frank McFarland found the blue crab in his pot when fishing on July 4 off Nome, according to The Associated Press.
The crab is stored at the Norton Sound Seafood Center, and many local crab enthusiasts flocked to the place to take photos with it.
The blue crab is now alive, but its days seem numbered. An employee of the seafood center has confirmed that McFarland plans to have the crab mounted.
Scott Kent, a biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, said he had no idea why the red king crab is blue, but suspects it's just a mutation.
