5.7-magnitude quake hits China, Kyrghyzstan border areas

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted border areas of China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region and neighboring Kyrghyzstan at 9:24 a.m. Friday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 42.2 degrees north latitude and 77.3 degrees east longitude. The quake hit at a depth of 10 kilometers, the center said in a statement.

The quake magnitude was revised from 5.2 to 5.7 on Richter scale.
