Myanmar has captured one more rare white elephant in the country's southwestern Ayeyawaddy region, officials said on Monday.

The seven-year old female white elephant, which is the 9th and has 1.87 meters in height and 2.58 meters in body structure with pearl color eyes, was captured by the Forestry Department and is under training at a camp in Pathein, capital of the region.

Myanmar possesses altogether eight white elephants with five accommodated in Nay Pyi Taw and the other three in Yangon.

According to Myanmar's historical records, there was a belief that "white elephant is sign of justice and power, the nation which possesses white elephant would be free from danger and the citizens would lead a peaceful life."

The Myanmar people regard the emergence of white elephant as an auspicious sign of peace and prosperity.
