The 2015 Clean Energy Expo China opened on Wednesday in Beijing, exhibiting pollution-reducing products from Chinese and international enterprises.

Clean Energy Expo China, a one-of-its-kind trade fair and conference in China, embodies and spotlights the entire spectrum of clean energy development. Exhibitors include State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, China Huaneng Group, General Electric and Siemens.

The event is co-organized by the China Electricity Council, the China State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Construction Industry Sub-Council, the Construction Industry Commerce Chamber, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-Council and the world-renowned trade fair organizer, Koelnmesse.

CEEC is at the forefront of the latest industry and market development trends and features related cross-sector sub-events on smart grids, wind power, solar PV, concentrated solar power, distributed energy, bio-energy and grid connectivity to provide trade and investment opportunities for a variety of business needs.

China consumes 10 percent of the world's total energy, but 70 percent of its primary energy consumption is coal, a proportion that is 40 percent higher than the world average. The pollution caused by coal burning accounts for 70 percent to 80 percent of the country's total emissions. Furthermore, acid rain triggered by these emissions falls over one-third of the entire area of China. According to the World Bank, the quality of the environment in China is continuously deteriorating as a result of this and other types of pollution.

Therefore, the development of clean energy has become the inevitable keystone of China's energy strategy. The Chinese government has devoted significant attention to the deployment of clean energy in order to maximize the major role clean energy can play in helping the country meet its rising energy demands, improve its energy structure, reduce environmental pollution, stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities, organizers said.

Following the adoption of the renewable energy law in 2005 (which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2006) and the implementation of the Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for Renewable Energy in 2007, China's renewable energy sector has been booming, resulting in the nation taking a leading position in the sector globally, particularly in wind power, solar water heating and small hydropower. China has now become the world's fastest-growing clean energy market.

The 2015 expo will be held for three days from April 1-3 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. More than 400 relevant enterprises from China and overseas will send representatives to the event.

Last year's expo attracted 300 exhibitors and 21,717 visitors.
