China's experience in constructing an ecological society will help other countries tackle the great challenges they face in promoting sustainable development in the post-2015 context, distinguished guests said at a June 27 subforum of the 2015 Eco Forum Global Annual Conference in Guiyang, the capital of southwestern China's Guizhou Province.

The subforum on sustainable development and ecological civilization was co-hosted by the United Nations in China and China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dai Bingguo, a former Chinese state councilor, said that China will actively implement the U.N. Post-2015 Development Agenda and strengthen the construction of an ecological civilization.
"Ecological civilization is China's interpretation of the concept of sustainable development, China's blueprint for implementing sustainable development, and China's sustainable development path, which it created in line with world trends and national conditions," Dai noted in his welcome speech.
Dai believed that the subforum will forge a bridge connecting China's construction of an ecological society to global sustainable development efforts.
Ecological civilization is a concept created by China to better protect the ecological environment and achieve greener, low-carbon and more sustainable development. It has been adopted as a national strategy.
The year 2015, which is the culmination of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, is a crucial year for global sustainable development. Negotiations on a series of important international issues have entered a critical period, and new consensus is expected to be reached in areas including development fundraising, sustainable development goals and climate change.
The Sustainable Development Goals that will shape the United Nations' post-2015 development agenda are slated to be set by U.N. member states in September.
"As China's ecological civilization approach is related well to the new global sustainable development agenda, it undoubtedly becomes a vital part of the country's contribution to the post-2015 development agenda," said Alain Noudehou, U.N. resident coordinator in China.
"Guizhou's development achievements over the past 15 years epitomize how the U.N. Millennium Development Goals have been implemented in China," said Shen Yiqin, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China's Guizhou Provincial Committee.
Shen noted, "Thanks to the Western China Development Strategy, Guizhou's GDP rose more than tenfold over the past 15 years and is projected to exceed 1 trillion yuan this year."
Guizhou, a mountainous province located in southwestern China, leads the country in ecological civilization construction.
Shen stressed that the province will continue to integrate economic development with environmental protection.
