The improved natural environment in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has become increasingly appealing for wild animals from neighboring Russia.

The provincial forestry department has reported evidence of the presence of Siberian tigers. Last year, a tiger crossed the border and was believed to have spent the entire winter there.

Black bears have also enjoyed excursions across borders. Many were spotted crossing the Ussuri River to China this fall. A bear cub even made it to a nearby county, causing a stir among residents.

The provincial department for environmental protection say years of hard work and nearly 100 million yuan (15.7 million U.S dollars) of investment have made the region along the China-Russia borders more attractive to wild life.

In addition, many natural reserves situated in Heilongjiang along the borders are also in cooperation with their Russian counterparts to step up protection for wild animals.
