Death toll from typhoon Koppu, locally named Lando, climbed to 35, while 24 were reported injured in northern part of the Philippines, the state disaster management agency said Wednesday.

The casualties came from six regions in Luzon, including Metro Manila, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

Over 212,000 families or about 993,000 people were affected by the weather disturbance and they were either being served in evacuation centers or outside.

Power interruptions were still being experienced in four cities and 57 municipalities, while four domestic flights were cancelled.

The estimated cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructure rose to 6.9 billion pesos (148.63 million U.S. dollars).

Koppu, which was earlier downgraded to tropical depression, was further lowed to low pressure area on Wednesday.
