5.3-magnitude earthquake hits off Taiwan coast

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake jolted the waters along the east coast of Taiwan Thursday evening, the island's weather and earthquake monitoring agency said.

The earthquake hit at 10:31 p.m. And the epicenter was monitored at 22.58 degrees north latitude and 121.44 degrees east longitude, about 35 km away from the Taitung county seat in southeast Taiwan, the agency said.
