5.3-magnitude earthquake jolts north Tibet

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit Amdo County in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region at 4:34 a.m. on Thursday, said China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicenter was monitored at 32.62 degrees north latitude and 91.67degrees east longitude, at a depth of 10 km, according to CENC.
The quake was strongly felt in the county, but no casualties have been reported so far, according to the county government. The Qinghai-Tibet railway has not been affected.
The county government has sent emergency teams to the epicenter towns.
Amdo, situated in the north of Tibet and 4,500 meters above sea level, lies on an earthquake-prone belt. It is 330 kilometers away from Lhasa, the regional capital.
