Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos said Luanda on Thursday that the world climate summit recently held in Copenhagen, Denmark failed to meet the expectations of developing countries.

The Angolan leader made the remarks at a ceremony for new year greetings from the diplomatic corps at his presidential palace in Luanda, Angola's official news agency Angop reported.

The Copenhagen summit failed to respond to the concerns expressed by developing countries, which caused less pollution to the environment but heavily affected in their economic and social life by this global phenomenon, Angop said.

The summit also fell short of taking further steps to tackle the causes of climate change or reaching a consensus on how to strike a balance between necessary developments and the preservation of the planet for the future generations, he said.

Eduardo dos Santos stressed the environmental issue should remain a priority in national and international agendas, and environmental issues should be solved by dialog and discussion, the most appropriate way of solving disputes, regardless of their nature.
