Brazil to hold forum on climate change

The Brazilian Forum on Climate Change will be held Tuesday in Brasilia, presenting three proposals and the country's position on international negotiations.
One of the proposals is the "Second National Communication to the Convention on Climate Change," a document that introduces the implementation of the UN Convention on Climate Change in Brazil.
This document includes the "National Inventory of Anthropogenic Emissions of Greenhouse Gases" from 1990 to 2005, which gathers information on emissions in various sectors of the Brazilian economy.
The second proposal is the signature of a decree regulating the National Fund on Climate Change, which will manage, monitor and evaluate the application of funds for projects, studies and developments to mitigate climate change.
The third proposal concerns the executive summary of five plans: two for prevention and control of deforestation in the Amazon and Brazilian Savanna, and another three for the sectors of energy, agriculture and steel.
According to the Environment Ministry, the rate of deforestation in the Amazon fell by 70 percent in the past seven years. During the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15) in 2009, Brazil made the commitment of reducing Amazon deforestation by 80 percent by 2020.
