An exhibition illustrating the ups and downs of China on the road of national revival since 1840 opened Friday at the National Museum of China.

Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the exhibition's opening ceremony Friday.

The exhibition, titled the Road of Rejuvenation, showed important historical events that Chinese people have experienced since 1840, when China was forced to open its door to foreign powers after the defeat in the Opium War.

The exhibition, with 980 pictures and some valuable relics, is divided into five chapters according to different time periods.

It focuses on a heroic struggle staged by all Chinese people for freedom, liberation and the country's revival under the guidance of the CPC.

The exhibition was first shown in October 2007 at the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution in Beijing. Friday's exhibition was staged to mark the 60th founding anniversary of the New China after the organizers made revisions and enriched the content of the previous show.
