The English version of former Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing's book, titled Breaking Through: the Birth of China's Opening-Up Policy, debuted Wednesday at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The book was written by Li Lanqing in honor of the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. The English version of the book was published by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press of China in cooperation with Oxford University Press.

The author, based on first-hand experience and a lot of valuable files and historic pictures, reviewed systematically important events in the early period of China's reform and opening up as well as the background and process of many important decision-makings concerning China's economic reforms.

Wu Shulin, deputy director of the General Administration of Press and Publication of China, said at the debut ceremony on Wednesday afternoon that the book will help foreign readers get a better understanding of China's reforms.

Nigel Portwood, chief executive of Oxford University Press, said he believed that the book would attract not only scholars but also ordinary readers who want to know more about China's rapid rise to an important economy over the past 30 years.

The publishing of this book reflects a growing desire in the world to know more about China, Portwood added.
