Vice Premier Wu Yi and her Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev on Sunday vowed to ensure the coming state visit by President Hu Jintao to Russia and the Year of China in Russia a success.

China will, along with Russia's efforts, strive to prepare for the coming opening ceremony of the Year of China and the Chinese National Exhibition, which will be attended by Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin next week, Wu told Medvedev during a meeting in Moscow.

"In that way, we can promote the friendly exchange and tangible cooperation in an all-round manner and further the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of cooperation to a new high," Wu said.

She hailed the results yielded in the Year of Russia in China in 2006, appreciating Russia's support for the reciprocal Chinese theme year.

Medvedev spoke highly of the theme years, saying Russia will try its best to ensure Hu's three-day state visit since March 26 and the related festivities to be successful.

Wu also met with Dmitry Mezentsev, vice-chairman of the Russian federation council on Sunday. They exchanged views on bilateral ties, the theme years and bilateral cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
