Li Ruiying, CPPCC member and CCTV news announcer:

With regards to the development of society and the economy, it is also very important to properly spread Standard Chinese. Therefore, I hope that greater effort will be made to popularize the use of Standard Chinese. The recent popularity of so-called “non-mainstream culture” indirectly reflects an improvement in social tolerance. In fact, we should not draw an artificial line between mainstream and non-mainstream cultures. I think that both are acceptable as long as the original intentions are good.
