Adjust font size:

China's prosecuting organs will intensify the fight against organized crime and violent crime in 2007, said Jia Chunwang, Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, on Tuesday.

He said the prosecuting organs will strike at underworld-related organized crime which represents a threat to social stability in the rural areas.

"Maintaining social stability is a pre-requisite for building a harmonious socialist society. Prosecuting organs are an important force in maintaining social stability and will carry out their duties assiduously in the new year, in particular prosecutions and the approval of arrests," Jia said.

He said in 2007, prosecuting organs will also clamp down on economic crimes, such as commercial fraud and the production and sale of fake and inferior-quality products, in order to foster honesty and fairness.

He said prosecuting organs will also fight crimes relating to intellectual property infringement, environmental deterioration and drug trafficking in 2007.
