Fliers face extra security checks for Olympics
Adjust font size:

Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced on Monday to start "special" security checks at 19 airports to guarantee a safe Olympic Games.

The CAAC said "special" checks would start from July 20, but did not detail the checks.

The 19 airports would include the Beijing Capital International Airport, airports in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Tibet Autonomous Region as well as airports of other 15 cities, including five Olympic co-host cities on the Chinese mainland -- Shanghai, Qingdao, Tianjin, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao.

This was CAAC's latest move to better protect flight safety after the administration banned liquids, lighters and matches from carry-on luggage on board and required passengers in the country to remove their shoes for safety checks.
