Macao's Population Hits New High

The resident population of Macao totaled a record 525,500 at the end of the first half of this year, according to official statistics issued Monday.

The figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Service (SCS) showed that some 993 live births were logged in the second quarter, seeing a year-on-year rise of 6.6 percent.

Macao's annual rate of population growth in the past five years averaged 2.9 percent, according to official statistics released earlier.
