The 10th China High-Tech Fair opened its doors in Shenzhen on Sunday. The Fair, which has been running for 10 years, is considered to be China’s No.1 science and technology event, the Information Times reported yesterday.

Space Watch on display

At the Fair, the Fiyta Shenzhou VII Space Watch has attracted large crowds. It has been revealed that the Fiyta Company only produced 699 of the watches, priced at 12,800 yuan per piece. In addition, the company also produced 50 watches identical to the one Zhai Zhigang wore during his spacewalk.

Other than the larger size and greater weight, there is no apparent difference between the space watch and an ordinary one. A staff member explained that the face of the watch is made of blue stone, and the date has been adjusted to show AM/PM so as to help astronauts keep in step with the time on earth.

280,000 yuan for a complete Astronaut’s Bed

In addition to the space watch, the special astronaut’s bed, which sells at 280,000 yuan, is also very eye-catching. The beds are said to be beneficial to astronauts’ sleep, a key factor in their recuperation after exhausting training sessions. As well as astronauts, the beds are popular with some athletes like Yao Ming and Liu Xiang.

Made of a special sponge, the bed is soft, sweat-absorbing and odoriferous, and there is a big market in Beijing regardless of its high price. The price of a single pillow is 1600 yuan, a double bed mattress costs 80,000 yuan, while a complete bed set will cost 280,000 yuan.

The quakeproof wardrobe

In Sichuan’s Exhibition Area, new technology has been utilized in various facilities used for post-quake reconstruction.

On display, there is a special wardrobe which can pre-warn of an earthquake and provide temporary shelter for people after an earthquake has occurred.

The wardrobe, 2-meter high and 1.5-meter wide, is made of steel. On one side there is a door with two rows of soft cushions, while on the other several posts reinforce the wardrobe.

The unique feature of the wardrobe is a unit which looks like a handgrip inside the wardrobe. This unit can sense an imminent earthquake quicker than humans, giving people enough time to take refuge in the wardrobe before the earthquake hits. In the bottom of the wardrobe is an insulated compartment in which food and water can be stored in case of emergency.
